Marvel Studios signs exclusive deal with Netflix to produce 5 new series

If Netflix wasn’t already pretty awesome where you can get unlimited access to TV series and movies for only $8 a month, here’s another reason. Marvel Studios has signed and exclusivity deal with online content provider, Netflix, to have 5 new series based on Marvel properties. Through ABC Studios, Netflix will have webseries of Daredevil, Luke Cage, Jessica Jones and Iron Fist. Each series will have a minimum of 13 episodes. Then a 5th webseries will have the 4 characters team-up for a Defenders series.  The first of these webseries will debut in 2015 starting with Daredevil.

With the success of the Agent of Shield series, I guess Marvel is going full force to compete with DC in terms of “TV” dominance. Even though Netflix is more of an online content provider, I think it’s a pretty smart move considering more and more people are getting rid of their regular cable provider and switching to online content provider especially with the rise of portable devices such as tablets and smartphones.  Either way, DC is going to have to step it to compete with Marvel.

Peter Parker as Spider-man returns!

Apparently, the trend of no character stays dead in the comic book world still holds true! Exactly one year after the apparent death of Peter Parker at the hands of Doc Ock, he will be returning on December 2013 in Amazing Spider-man #700.1!  For those of you who didn’t see this coming, you must be one of people who believe that the Easter Bunny is real and that politicians always keep their promises!  If you’re one of these people, I got a nice shiny wooden nickel for you.  How Peter Parker will come back to the Marvel Universe or if he really had left in the first place is yet to be seen but I’m hoping it’s not another one of those trans-dimensional or time warping things again! Anyhow, issue 700.1 will be arriving on December 4th, 2013.

The Flash Appears on Arrow TV Series!

The Flash will be appearing as a guest on the CW Arrow TV series.  Barry Allen will be appearing in 3 episodes with the 3rd one being a backdoor pilot into the new Flash TV series being created by two of the three Arrow TV series creators, Andrew Kreisberg and Greg Berlanti and DC Comics superstar writer, Geoff Johns.  No official announcement has been made as to when the new Flash tv series will begin. Johns also wrote two upcoming episodes of Arrow for season two. These would episode 8 and 9 which most likely be the episodes the Scarlet Speedster from Central City will appear in.

This may not be the live action appearance that comic book fans have been looking forward to but it will have to do for now. Marc Guggenheim stated that he still plans on making a Flash movie and is aiming at a release date sometime in 2016.

Latest News: Warner Bros Announces Actors for Superman Batman Movie

Latest News: Warner Bros Announces Actors for Superman Batman Movie

After weeks of speculations, Warner Bros announces who will be playing the roles of Superman and Batman in the upcoming Superman Batman movie that was announced in July.  Man of Steel actor, Henry Cavill will reprise his role of Superman and just announced, Ben Affleck will be Batman. The movie is slated for release July 17th 2015.

I wasn’t impressed when Henry Cavill was announced to be Superman/Clark Kent for Man of Steel. Of course, I’m pretty bias since in my mind the only person who can be the “real” Superman is Christopher Reeves and nothing can ever change my mind of this.  I guess considering the newest Superman movie made over $650 million it’s pretty hard to argue that Warner Bros would want Cavill back for another movie.

Now that Ben Affleck has been chosen to be the Dark Knight, I definitely think Warners Bros have lost their mind and no amount of money could ever buy it back! You would think someone who could play Daredevil wouldn’t have much problems being Batman but need I remind you that Affleck acting as Daredevil/ Matt Murdock was as good as Roseanne Barr singing the US National Anthem.  Not only was he horrible as the blind vigilante, he got majorly upstaged by his co-star Jennifer Garner and Colin Farrell. Garner, of course, was so good the studio thought it was a great idea to give Elektra her own movie. We all know how that went. Mind you, I wasn’t fond of Christian Bale as Batman in the Dark Knight Trilogy by Christopher Nolan either but I was able to see past it because everyone else in the cast did a good job to make it work.  I am not sure who Warner Bros are going to get to make Affleck look good in this movie but I sure hope they have lots of funds in their budget to hire some really talented cast members.

Also announced a few cast members of this new movie are: Man of Steel stars Amy Adams as  Lois Lane, Laurence Fishburne as Perry White and Diane Lane as Martha Kent. The rest of the cast has yet to be determined.

The new Super Hero film is being scripted by David S. Goyer from a story he co-created with Zack Snyder. Charles Roven and Deborah Snyder are producing, with Benjamin Melniker, Michael E. Uslan and Wesley Coller serving as executive producers.

As much as I love to see Superman and Batman together on the big screen, I am pretty skeptical that it will be good enough to impress me. Hopefully, by some miracle the movie won’t be as bad as Green Lantern.

Latest News: Superman Batman Movie Announced!

There’s a new dynamic duo coming to the silver screen and thank god it’s not Batman and Robin as it was hinted in the last Batman movie, Dark Knight Rises.

At the Warners Bros/Legendary panel during the 2013 San Diego Comicon, a new DC Comics movie,  Man of Steel director, Zack Snyder,  announced there will be another Superman movie. A new Superman AND Batman movie to be more precise.

Following the success of the Man of Steel, Warner Bros has decided to venture into another movie but this time with their two most recognizable characters teaming up.  There’s very little details released about the new project. What we do know is that Warner Bros plan to create a connected cinematic universe similar to what Marvel has with interconnected movies.

Hopefully, more information will be release soon. In the meantime, let the rumormill in comicdom begin!

Latest News: Agents of Shield TV Series

He’s alive! That’s the first thought in my head when I first found out about an Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D TV series. I’m, of course, referring to Agent Phil Coulson from the Avengers movie who died a valiant death at the hands of Loki but seemly, appears to be alive and well in the trailer for the new TV series. The series will debut on September 24th, 2013 on ABC with CTV holding the rights in Canada.

The series cast consists of Clark Gregg, reprising his role as Agent Coulson, Ming-Na Wen as Agent Melinda May, Brett Dalton as Agent Grant Ward, Chloe Bennet as Skye, Iain De Caestecker as Agent Leo Fitz, and Elizabeth Henstridge as Agent Jemma Simmons.  Josh Wheddon, Jed Wheddon and Maurissa Tancharoen are the creators and writers.  Cobie Smulders reprises her role as Maria Hill on the pilot and will most likely appear in future episodes since according to Josh Wheddon, she’s an integral part of the series.  Jed Wheddon stated that the TV series will play an important part in linking to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The last successful Marvel TV series that I can recall would be the classic Incredible Hulk TV series starring Bill Bixby and Lou Ferigno. With the DC Comics’ Arrow garnering a loyal following, it will be interesting how the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will fare against it.  Sink or swim, comic fans mark your calendar,  remember to set your PVR on September 24th, 2013 and “Welcome to Level 7″!
