Comic Review: Winter Soldier Volume The Longest Winter

Winter Soldier Volume 1 The Longest Winter

Winter Soldier Volume 1 The Longest Winter

Bucky Barnes must become something from his past, the Winter Soldier, in order to track down an enemy from long ago. An excellent Marvel series that is written by Ed Brubaker (Criminal, Iron Fist) and illustrated by Butch Guice (Resurrection Man, Ruse).

James Barnes must now go back to the dangerous world of spies and partner up with the Black Widow. Recently, it was discovered that ex-sleeper cell agents from Russia have awoken and disappeared. With no one knowing where they are or what they could be planing it’s up to Barnes. If anyone can stop these deadly agents surely it’s the man who trained them–the Winter Soldier.

The Marvel universe is full of super powered people so it’s nice to read an intriguing story about regular people. Brubaker brings his usual writing style but amps the deceit and unexpected twists to a level befitting that of spies. The artwork has a very sleek and sexy style to it. This is another awesome series cut down in its prime at issue 19.
