The Punisher Presents Barracuda

The Punisher Presents Barracuda

O yeah the big bad Barracuda is back in Punisher MAX with his own miniseries. Enjoy this Marvel MAX title written by Garth Ennis (Red Team, Crossed) and illustrated by Goran Parlov (Fury MAX, Y The Last Man).

Barracuda is approached by Italian mafia boss, Chris Angelone, with a proposition. He needs Barracuda’s help to take out his competition ,Leopoldo Luna, in a war over cocaine prices but he wants his son who is a hemophiliac (may bleed out due to minor injuries) to kill him. He agrees to help but knowing Barracuda, it may not turn out the way Chris had hoped.

Anyone who has read Barracuda before will really enjoy this mini-series. Full of ridiculously funny humor and over the top violence. They even pay homage to the  TV series, The Soprano’s,  in the first issue and there is also a Christopher Walken type character. A definite must have for your Punisher collection.

Fury MAX My War Gone By Volume 1

Fury MAX My War Gone By Volume 1

A series of tales throughout the decades of war and secret operations that Nick Fury has been involved in. A Marvel MAX series written by Garth Ennis (Preacher, Hitman) and illustrated by Goran Parlov.

Sitting in a room with a drink and cigar in one hand and microphone in the other, Fury begins to record the things he has done for his country. Starting in Vietnam 1954 he tales the tale of trying to keep the country in the hands of the French. A bloody battle that ultimately does not work in their favor. The second tale is that of Cuba in 1961 during the bay of pigs. Not only did he have a hand in training the soldiers, he also tried to assassinate Castro. A life of constant war is the only thing Colonel Nick Fury has known.

As with all MAX series, it’s full of violence, sex and bad language, it’s about time Nick Fury was done on this imprint. His life lends itself to that of horror and destruction. Goran’s artwork really shows the truth and brutality of war and the actions Nick is, at times, forced to take.A really amazing series that just wrapped up with issue 13 , it’s absolutely worth your time and money.

Comic Review: Untold Tales Of Punisher MAX

Untold Tales Of Punisher MAX

Untold Tales Of Punisher MAX

Sadly the ongoing series of the Punisher is done for now but come enjoy these individual stories. This Marvel series is written and illustrated by different pairings each issue, it’s the perfect thing to tide you over till Frank comes back.

The Punisher is known and feared by everyone who has evil in their hearts. A man who will never stop fighting those who bring violence to the street and the innocent people. We’ve all heard the stories of what the Punisher has done. Some of us have even witnessed his brand of vigilante justice first hand. But, some stories aren’t meant to be told, these are the untold tales of the Punisher.

There is a lot to like about this series starting with the authors and illustrators. With each issue having a different pairing you are constantly treated to new interpretations of the Punisher world. Each story does share one similarity, the Punisher takes a back seat to the story itself. He will be seen in a few pages throughout the whole issue but the story will be the main focus. Give this one a try and you won’t be disappointed.

Punisher MAX Volume 1 Kingpin

Punisher MAX Volume 1 Kingpin

This is a reboot of the Punisher MAX series with a new continuous storyline. In this volume Jason Aaron (The Other Side, Scalped) and artist Steve Dillon (Skreemer, Preacher) tell the re-imagined origin story of Kingpin.

The Punisher is doing what he usually does–killing bad guys. As he moves through the streets he starts to hear whispers about a boss of bosses coming to town. His name is The Kingpin but The Punisher has never seen or heard of him before. With the streets preparing for his arrival can The Punisher find him. Or will The Kingpin be standing over his dead body–if he even exists that is.

As always the MAX series is known for its gore and violence. It definitely does not disappoint. The new origin of Kingpin is a brutal story that is very satisfying. I liked the previous MAX series but what’s really enjoyable about this series is the continuation. Each volume leads into the next following the ending of the previous issue.

The Hood Blood From Stones

The Hood Blood From Stones

The story of a petty criminal and how he happened upon a hood with special powers.  A Marvel MAX imprint written by Brian K. Vaughan (Y:The Last Man, Runaways) and illustrated by Kyle Hotz (The Nightman, Incredible Hulk).

Parker Robbins is a good guy who just happens to be a criminal, like his father. With a pregnant wife at home, a girl on the side  and his mother’s medical bills, he’s gonna need a steady cash flow. During a robbery something unexpected happens, he is attacked by a demon. A fight ensues and Parker kills the demon, leaving behind a hood and boots. Soon he will find out the dark powers behind these items.

Very interesting story, good mix of supernatural and crime. Thanks to it being on MAX imprint the serious and dark tone of being a criminal is not held back.
