The Shadow Volume 1 The Fire Of Creation

The Shadow Volume 1 The Fire Of Creation

The classical pulp avenger known as The Shadow is back. This series from Dynamite Entertainment is written by Garth Ennis (Punisher MAX, Preacher) and illustrated by Aaron Campbell (Dark Shadows, Sherlock Holmes: Year One).

Set in 1938, The Shadow is the mortal enemy of all those who commit crime and perpetrate evil. He appears from out of nowhere to dole out deadly justice and leaves not a single soul alive. If The Shadow needs information he can place a hand on their corpse and take what he needs. Chasing a lead, The Shadow soon finds himself in Hong Kong in the hopes of unraveling a dastardly plot.

I’ve never read The Shadow before so I was pleasantly surprised to find out he is more than just a vigilante. There is a supernatural element that is presented and it’s hinted that an explanation will be forthcoming. Garth Ennis does a great job of modernizing The Shadow but keeping what people love from the original (so I’ve been told). With so many older pulp comics coming back The Shadow is a good place to start.
