Comic Review: Kingdom Come

Kingdom Come

Kingdom Come

This DC book really got me into reading comics. It’s the story of how after Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman and the older superheros quit, the present generation heroes are faced with the blurred line between right and wrong.Writer, Mark Waid (Incorruptible, Daredevil) and artist, Alex Ross (Astro City, Universe X), tell this story.

The superheroes that fight to save people have lost their way. They’re more concerned with destroying their enemies than saving the lives of the people in danger. Superman has been retired for some time but still keeps an eye on the world. One day, he can no longer let things continue down its current path.  His intervention and presence brings out the heroes of the  old. With these actions, a rift in ideals is created that challenges the status quo.

The story delves into what truly makes a superhero. Is it just fighting evil at any cost or is it more than that. Being that this is in the future, you get to see how age has changed some of your favorite heroes. You may be surprised to see how some have changed.

Comic Review: Wonder Woman Amazons Attack

Wonder Woman Amazons Attack

Wonder Woman Amazons Attack

The women of Amazon attack the citizen’s of earth in a plot to rule the planet. A DC title written by Will Pfeifer (Catwoman, Aquaman) and illustrated by Pete Woods (Legion Lost, Robin).

Wonder Woman is being held prisoner by The Department Of Meta-human Affairs. They are trying to get information about Amazonian technology. This sets in motion an all out war between Earth and the Amazonians. Coming to the aid of her daughter, Hippolyta invades Earth with devastating violence. This is not what Wonder Woman wants but it may be too late for her to stop the attack.

A decent title with the only problem being  that you may get confused from time to time. I really enjoyed the coloring of the artwork. With some crazy battles, I was surprised to see how violent the Amazonians can get.

JLA Volume 7 Tower Of Babel

JLA Volume 7 Tower Of Babel

How can you stop the Justice League, the most powerful team on the planet. That is the question posed by writer Mark Waid (The Brave and The Bold, Indestructible Hulk) and artist Howard Porter (Aquaman, Doc Savage) in DC’s Tower Of Babel.

Batman has a plan for everything but what does he do when they are used against him. Someone has stolen files on how to defeat all the members of the Justice League and are implementing them. It’s up to Batman to save his friends and find out who is behind all this. Even if he can do this, will the Justice League ever forgive him?

Great tale about the strongest superheros and how they deal with being utterly helpless. If you are a big Batman fan this is just one more reason as to why he kicks so much ass. But, even he is left vulnerable at some point in the story.

Comic Review: Justice League Volume 1 Origin

Justice League Volume 1 Trashed

Justice League Volume 1 Trashed

It’s the origin story of how all the members meet for the first time and formed the Justice League.  Written by Geoff Johns (Green Lantern, 52) and illustrated by Jim Lee (Gen 13, Deathblow), it’s the world’s most powerful team.

The DC Universe has been changed after the events of Flashpoint. Some changes are small and barley noticeable, while others are drastic. With the Justice League, the members have not even meet yet. A dramatic event is on the horizon that will cross the paths of these hero’s. With a great evil too powerful for any one person, they will need to ban together. Unfortunately it may take awhile before they actually work together.

Great jumping on point if you are new to the Justice League. It definitely sows the seeds for the current Trinity War. Also the origin of cyborg and how he was created is part of this volume.

Comic Review: Infinite Crisis

DC Comics Infinite Crisis

DC Comics Infinite Crisis

The heroes of the DC Universe faces one of their greatest challenges. This is also a sequel to the 1980’s series. A story written by Geoff Johns (JSA, Avengers) and drawn by a team consisting of George Perez (Avengers, Teen Titans), Phil Jimenez (Wonder Woman, Invisibles), Jerry Ordway (Superman), and Ivan Reis (Green Lantern)

Following the events of Identity Crisis, Batman has inadvertently released an army of OMAC’s on the world. Also revealed in this story line is that there were survivors from the original “crisis”, Crisis on Infinite Earths. These survivors, which included Alexander Luthor and Superboy Prime, were hiding in a cave. Now they feel it is time for them to reveal to the world of their existence. If the original crisis was any indication, you can expect a pretty rough road ahead for the heroes of the DC Universe.

The story was well written and kept you on the edge of your seat throughout the entire event. Geoff John worked his magic quite well like he did for the revival of the JSA series. As well, George Perez has not lost his touch as the king of jamming as many characters into a panel as possible.

Must read tie-ins into this story are Days of Vengeance, OMAC Project, Villains United, and Rann Thanagar War as well as Superman: Sacrifice which ties into OMAC Project. This story leads you into the 52 week series “52” and continues on to Countdown to Final Crisis and Final Crisis.
